History of Lively Talks & Tours

Lively Tours and Talks is owned and operated by Dave Lively and specializes in providing the most engaging information about the history behind Rocky Mountain National Park and the Northern mountains of Colorado.

Established in 2016, Lively Tours and Talks has been providing History Programs “Sisters of Courage”, Rocky’s West Side Stories”, “Lost Lodges of Rocky”, “Who Was the Sculptor in Buckskin?”, and “Cache la Poudre”, at locations such as libraries, senior/adult centers, museums and learning institutes around the state of Colorado.

In the fall of 2016 Lively Tours and Talks began providing Step-On Tour Guide Service to provide motorcoaches/tour buses with a local guide through Rocky Mountain National Park and the Wild and Scenic Cache la Poudre Canyon area. National and regional tour companies, organizations including History Colorado, several senior/adult centers, receptive operators, DMOs hire Lively Tours and Talks, to provide Dave Lively as their local tour guide through Rocky Mountain National Park for one and multi-day tours.

In 2019 Lively Tours and Talks announced an expansion to also begin offering Private Guided Tours in Rocky Mountain National Park for very small groups. The minimum size is one person with the maximum group size is four guests. Each tour offers walking tours to historic sites and additional travel by pickup truck to view areas offering many opportunities for stunning photos and possible wildlife viewing.

Your unique experience in Rocky Mountain National Park and the Cache la Poudre Canyon begins with Dave Lively as your Chief Experience Officer. He will share with you sights and wildlife and engage you with stories of the pioneer days like no one else can while shining light on hidden narratives.

Lively Tours and Talks operates under an annual Commercial Use Authorization (CUA) permit with Rocky Mountain National Park and carries required liability insurance.

Dave is the Chief Experience Officer of Lively Tours and Talks.

Dave creates and conducts unique tours combining spectacular scenery and local history for groups large and small. His knowledge and passion for Rocky Mountain National Park (RMNP) and the mountains of Northern Colorado enliven the stories he shares of remarkable characters from the past and brings deeper understanding and appreciation for where we are today.

Dave lives less than 1/2 mile from RMNP, and his 1895 family homestead was on the land which is now the entrance to Rocky Mountain National Park, providing Dave with a personal twist no one else can offer.

Dave is a Certified Tour Guide and Certified Interpretive guide with unsurpassed knowledge and passion for the region and he is committed to the highest standards of professionalism and ethics. He appears in The Living Dream: 100 Years of Rocky Mountain National Park, a documentary on PBS stations nationwide. He is quoted in many recent books and articles written on the history of RMNP, including:

He volunteered in Rocky Mountain National Park for over fifteen years, presenting his history program, “Sisters of Courage”. He trained new seasonal Park Rangers and volunteers about the history of RMNP.

Dave conducts tours for more than 300 people per year into Rocky Mountain National Park.

Dave Lively is a dynamic speaker who specializes in shining light on hidden narratives.

He creates programs and conducts tours highlighting local history for groups large and small. His knowledge and passion for the West side of Rocky Mountain National Park and the stories he shares of remarkable characters from the past bring deeper understanding and appreciation for where we are today.

He lives less than ½ mile from where his family homesteaded in 1896 what is now the entrance to Rocky Mountain National Park.

Dave is a well-known local historian, Certified Interpretive Guide, and Certified Tour Guide with unsurpassed knowledge and passion for the region and is committed to the highest standards of professionalism and ethics. He appears in “The Living Dream: 100 Years of Rocky Mountain National Park” a documentary on PBS stations nationwide.

He is Past President of the Grand Lake Area Historic Society and Grand County Historical Association and Past Vice Chair/West Slope Representative of Colorado Preservation Inc.

Dave volunteered at Rocky Mountain National Park for 15 years conducting Ranger-Led history walking tours.

Sustainability

Lively Tours and Talks has long supported a mission that is sustainable.
Dave and his wife Corinne have been the only staff of Lively Tours and Talks for years. They have given back by volunteering for Adopt-A-Highway, Keep Colorado Clean, cleaning up the 2 miles of highway at the entry to Grand Lake, Colorado, and Rocky Mountain National Park.
One of the original Stewardship Members of Cares For Colorado/Leave No Trace, Lively Tours and Talks promotes the principles for a better Colorado future.
